WHAT IS JUVENILE DIABETES?
Juvenile diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. In juvenile diabetes, a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. Juvenile diabetes usually strikes in childhood but lasts a lifetime. People with juvenile diabetes must take multiple injections of insulin daily or continuous infusion of insulin through a pump just to survive.
WHO IS JDRF?
JDRF, the leading charitable funder and advocate of juvenile (type 1) diabetes research worldwide, was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $800 million in direct funding to diabetes research. More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF’s mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
Delta Epsilon Psi and JDRF
On February 16th, 2011 Delta Epsilon Psi announced its official partnership with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The partnership marked one of the most significant milestone achievements in the history of the fraternity. As partners of a corporate entity, the fraternity’s bounds in supporting its primary philanthropy, type 1 diabetes, have become limitless. The professional status of every signature service event for JDRF has allowed Delta Epsilon Psi to reach out to more individuals on a larger scale, thus resulting in more funds in support of JDRF’s cause.
The brothers of Delta Epsilon Psi are committed to preserving the mission of our predecessors in the fight against juvenile diabetes. Raising over $50,000 annually, Delta Epsilon Psi contributes 100% of its efforts to providing awareness and funds in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation mission to find a cure. The brothers of Nu Chapter, in particular, host events such as Sugar Spike Off, our annual philanthropic event, Drench-A-Delta, Dodging Diabetes, Restaurant Fundraisers, and many other fundraisers in order to raise proceeds to give to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
